Networking as a Tool Networking has a reputation of being the most successful method of job searching because it connects the explorer to the hiring manager through a network of personal referrals. Oftentimes the employment opportunities uncovered while networking are ones that have never been advertised. But what is networking? How do we do it? And how can we find employment by using it? In the “Networking as a Tool” breakout sessions, we answer those questions by reviewing the characteristics of networking. We define what it is; we discuss the raw materials – contacts; we practice the methodology – how to connect; we learn the protocol – how to be persistent without being pushy; we discover the tools – resumes, cards, contact management; and we discuss the do’s and don’ts. This session will help the explorer build a foundation for successful networking. Interview Prep You have the interview, now what in this session individuals will discuss interview questions and develop a hiring strategy with a Human Resource professional. You will receive candid advice and feedback on each stage of your interview; preparation, participation, and follow-up. In this session you will be given the written tools to communicate effectively. Most employers see the cover letter as your first assignment or a representation of your day-to-day correspondence. Don’t send a boring form letter that holds no interest. A well written, personable letter is much more enjoyable to read. Learn to; -Separate yourself from other job candidates by researching the company… -State your objectives and present yourself as a solution to their needs… -Express your attitude – the tone of your initial correspondence must be personable, precise and informative to entice employers to read your resume… -Format and build content for cover letters, thank you letters, and marketing letters… Resumes This session offers general tips guidelines, and current trends in writing a resume that generates results. We offer examples, format choices, help writing the objective, the summary and other sections, as well as samples of excellent resume writing. Bring a current resume for review and suggestions. Prayer God cares for each one of us, be encouraged in knowing that he has a plan for your life. During this session someone will pray with and for you. Through this experience you will be rewarded with a deeper sense of God’s presence and strength to continue the course.
