Overview

The Trauma Registrar is responsible and accountable for management of the Trauma Registry. The Trauma Registry (data bases/hard copy files) supports trauma quality and process improvement efforts, which are identified concurrently. The Trauma Registrar screens and enters all trauma patients into the trauma registry databases, and maintains all components of the Registry files. The Trauma Registrar is responsible for daily charging, 100% review of trauma patient's records (EMS, ED & Inpatient) data tracking/collection, injury scoring and coding (ICD-9). The Trauma Registrar assists the Trauma Program Manager with identification of Quality Improvement issues for trauma. The registrar is also responsible for compiling statistics for various reports/projects on a monthly/ongoing basis. The Trauma Registrar is a contact person for all trauma related data requests. The trauma registrar is expected to make timely and sound decision related to data collection and usage methodology with minimal guidance.

Essential Job Duties

Collects and accurately enters PI data into trauma registry.
Assures integrity of data submitted in the trauma registry.
Serves as a key member of the trauma team in the performance improvement process by providing reports of registry information.
Acts as a liaison to the Trauma Department physicians to identify information needs and problems with data collection and quality.
Defines, develops, reviews and implements procedures to improve data collection quality and develops procedures for problem resolution.
Maintains documentation on usage, training operations definitions, and changes in procedures of the data registry.
Assists Trauma Program Manager with maintaining infrastructure related to Trauma Care.
Accurately designs and implements data collection forms/definitions and reports for end users.
Abstracts, enters, and verifies accuracy of data from the out of hospital setting, inpatient and discharge records for the identified trauma population.
Assists the Trauma Program Manager with other activities related to the achievement and maintenance of trauma center verification through the American College of Surgeons

This is a 36 Hour Per Week salaried position. The incumbent would normally work 8 hours on Monday and 7 hours Tuesday through Friday beginning at 6 A.M. This position has no weekends, holidays or on call requirements.

Skills / Requirements

Bachelors degree in nursing or related health care related field is required. BS in Biology/Anatomy and Physiology may be considered. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.

2 - 4 years work experience in directly related medical field required

Experience with analytical databases and data management knowledge and skills preferred.

Familiarity with trauma systems and trauma patient care (pre-hospital through rehabilitation) preferred.

Experience in working with computerized database, database management and/or accessing and working with computerized patient record

Work experience and knowledge in data collection and quality assurance procedures for clinical research preferred
Certification in Injury Scaling from the Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine [AAAM] preferred

Knowledge of ICD-9 coding and coding experience in an acute care hospital preferred
