Job Description

Position Purpose

The Utilities Supervisor is responsible for managing and optimizing the operation, repair and compliance to all regulations regarding the entire facility's utility processes, to include: Air Plant Systems, Boiler Systems, Chilled and Cooling Tower Water Systems, HVAC Systems, Fire Suppression Systems and Tempered Water Systems. The role will work with a team of utilities technicians as well as internal and external maintenance personnel, third-party specialists and production teams. The individual can also take on Capital Project execution for the replacement and/or upgrade of assets within their area.

Principal Accountabilities

45% Lead, mentor, coach and train a team of Utilities Technicians that operate the Air, Boiler, Chiller, Cooling Tower, HVAC, Fire Suppression and Tempered Water systems. Ensure all asset operation is safe, inspected and tested per regulations, and meet the needs of other Production departments. Ensure all assets within the department are reliable through scheduling and coordination of preventative and predictive maintenance using internal and external maintenance resources. Prepare assets for maintenance work and complete all necessary permitting.

20% Ensure the audit-readiness of the department against internal and external regulations. Participate in internal and external audits. Own the action items from audits and inspections to further ensure department readiness.

15% Work with select supplier 3rd Party groups to deploy, maintain and improve upon water treatment systems and the training of Utilities Technicians.

10% Participate in and/or perform Capital Project Management to improve, upgrade and replace department assets with the assistance of internal and external engineering resources.

10% Perform other duties as assigned, including participation in continuous improvement activities related to EHS, FSQR, Reliability and Production Excellence.


Required Qualifications
• High school degree or an approved GED
• 2 years' experience in Leadership positions
• 3 years' experience in Utilities Operations (Boilers, Air Compressors, Chiller Systems, Cooling Towers, etc.)
• ASOPE Facility Operating Engineer 3rd Class License or be able to obtain one within 1 Year.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
• Able and willing to travel as needed, typically 10% or less.

Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree in engineering or other technical discipline
• 5 years' experience in Utilities Operations
• Certified Industrial Refrigeration Operator (CIRO) or other approved Technical Certification.
• 2 years' experience in Project Management
• Experience in Process Safety Management (PSM)
• Experience utilizing Computerized Maintenance Management Systems, including Maximo or SAP
• Clear understanding of Reliability Excellence Model and working knowledge of reliability practices
• Continuous improvement experience or certifications
• HACCP or FSSC 22000 experience
• OSHA 10-hour training in General Industry Safety and Health OR OSHA 30-hour training in Construction Safety and Health.
