The City of Eau Claire is currently accepting applications for a part-time Computer Support Technician I in the Information Technology Division. This position performs front line support for City computer users through phone and email Help Desk requests. This position is also responsible for troubleshooting and diagnosing client side devices including PC's, printers, phones and client side software issues. In addition to Help Desk support, this position plays a role in department projects and processes such as PC replacements, software deployments, inventory management, and user training.

We are looking for someone with strong interpersonal skills, customer service experience, solid communication skills, a desire to learn, and moderate technical computer knowledge.

Under general supervision, performs specialized and technical work in all phases of computer operations.
The Computer Support Technician works together with the Computer Support Supervisor to perform front line support for City computer users through phone and email Help Desk requests. This technician position is responsible for the troubleshooting and diagnosis of all client side devices including PC's, printers, phones as well as client side software issues. In addition to Help Desk support, the Computer Support Technician also plays a role in many department projects and processes such as PC replacements, software deployments, inventory management and user training.
Troubleshoot and diagnose functionality questions and issues in major software packages, including word processing, spreadsheet, database management, operating system software, utilities software.
Perform break/fix solutions with computer hardware and peripherals, including the ordering and installing of replacement parts where necessary.
Ensure high level of performance on all supported equipment by carrying out maintenance tasks where needed.
Strong interpersonal skills, with experience working with customers and maintaining good customer relationships
Communication skills, both verbal and written, including ability to communicate complex technical issues to technical and non-technical users in a professional, positive, friendly and understandable manner
Installs and sets up PC hardware and software releases and updates.
Maintain hardware and software inventory through electronic and manual audits, including computers, tablets, printers, software and other peripherals.
Ensure proper disposal of computer equipment through the online auction and recycling programs.
Ensure that software licensing standards are followed across the organization, ensuring compliance with manufacturer's requirements.
Maintain and manage documentation of work done and procedures through use of the work order system and other documentation management systems.
Monitor all end user resources to ensure efficient use and operation of all hardware and software.
Ability to multitask and adapt to changes quickly.
Schedule outside service providers in for assistance when needed.
Monitor and manage equipment available for checkout and perform setup and teardowns where needed.
Develop, maintain and deliver technical end-user and operations training.
Maintains prompt, predictable, and regular physical attendance.
Must be able to take direction and work well with others.
Must be able to concentrate and perform accurately.
Must be able to react to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
Must be able to back-up fellow co-workers.
Performs related duties as required.
