JOB SUMMARY Assists the registered Occupational Therapist in administering occupational therapy treatment in the outpatient setting for patients suffering from injuries, neurological conditions, developmental delays, or muscle, nerve, joint and bone disease, to restore function and prevent disability by performing the following duties:
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  
 

  • Assists in planning and implementing therapeutic programs and activities established by registered Occupational Therapist, designed to restore, reinforce, and enhance task performances, diminish or correct pathology, and to promote and maintain health and self-sufficiency.

 
 

  • Provides Occupational Therapy treatment addressing ADL activities, functional, strength, and cognitive deficits.

 
 

  • Measures patient's range-of-joint motion, grip/pinch strength, sensation, coordination, muscle strength to determine effects of specific treatments administered.

 
 

  • Assists with re-evaluations and treatment addressing ADL activities, functional, strength, and cognitive deficits.

 
 

  • Plans and implements therapeutic programs and activities designed to restore, reinforce, and enhance task performances, diminish or correct pathology, and to promote and maintain health and self-sufficiency.

 
 

  • Instructs, motivates, and assists patients to learn and improve functional activities and daily living activities

 
 

  • Recommends, designs and adapts equipment for the working and living environment.

 
 

  • Fabricates splints and other assistant devices.

 
 

  • Completes wound treatment under the direction of OTR.

 
 

  • Assists in instructing patient and family in home programs as well as care and use of adaptive equipment.

 
 

  • Administers active and passive manual therapeutic exercises, mobilization of tissue and joints, heat, water, and electrical modality treatments such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, and hot and cold packs.

 
 

  • Confers with members of occupational therapy staff and other health team members, individually and in conference, to exchange, discuss, and evaluate patient information for planning, modifying, and coordinating treatment programs.

 
 
 
 

  • Records treatment, response, and progress in patient's chart or enters information into computer.

 
 

  • Performs thorough, complete, and timely electronic documentation..

 
 

  • Confers with Physician and other practitioners to obtain additional patient information, suggest revisions in treatment program, and integrate occupational therapy treatment with other aspects of patient's health care.

 
 

  • Assists with orientation/training of COTA's, technicians, and students.

 
 

  • Participates in the development of community education or a promotional program in the rehabilitation field.

 
 

  • Assists in the development of new services or programs.

 
 

  • Performs clerical duties such as taking inventory, ordering supplies, answering telephone, taking messages, and filling out forms.

 
 

  • Strengths in care delivery as evidenced by peer review feedback; consistently demonstrates competence in treatment and re-evaluations techniques.

 
 

  • Participates actively in the PI and CQI process.

 
 

  • May act as a Clinical Instructor for COTA students.

 
 

  • Participates in cost savings initiatives in the department.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, & EXPERIENCE  
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school.
Registered by NBCOT or eligible for certification and registration
 
CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE                                            
Certified/Licensed as a Certified Occupational Therapist in Wisconsin, Illinois, or both if required.
CPR Certification                                            
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT                                                      
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. Occupational Exposure is Category A.

Attends staff meetings, in-services, and continuing education seminars.  Must be able to travel and rotate to other clinic locations as needed.
